I love it except…
This Oliso Missouri Quilt iron is so cute, and I really want to love it. It just is lacking in performance. The “Linen + Cotton” setting will no joke give you beautifully pressed seems on your quilt block seams. One down side for this wonderful high heat is that you can’t use the awesom feature of not haring to set it upright. If you leave it in the down position (even in the lesser setting between “Linen + Cotton” it will still lightly scorch your ironing board cover. I don’t put it on my wool pad. I started noticing it, then the light brown under where I rest the iron kept getting darker. That’s ok, I understand that’s a high heat but that’s the only one I use as a quilter, so paying more for that feature to not have to raise it to the upright position is wasted. I also found it doesn’t shut off after 30 minutes in the upright position. So having to set it upright, I also have to turn the dial all the way down to low/(power symbol) so it will turn off. These issues are disappointing but I can adapt. What really makes me mad is that a couple months after using it, the iron won’t give a burst of steam when I press the button. It did beautifully the first couple months, now nothing. I had the same problem when I bought an Oliso mini iron with trivet 2 years ago, except that one the steam function stopped working all together after using it for a week (no steam burst when pushing the button, no steam AT ALL). Oliso doesn’t know how to make steam irons, or know quilters needs. They are making irons targeted for quilters who use the high setting, but you only find out after reading the Owners Manual that when you leave it in the down position you have to turn it down. That is defeating the point of buying this high priced iron for its cool features. If I have to turn the temp dial down every time I leave it in the down position so I can go sew another seem, when I come back a few minutes later, now I have to turn the dial to cotton setting and wait for it to heat up. This fancy Oliso cost so much and is causing more effort and time. The Oliso Missouri Quit Iron is super cute, but I would never buy it again, nor would I suggest a quilter buy it. Buy a Regina for half the price, and it will never fail you. (They aren’t pretty though 😄). My daughter was gifted an Oliso Tula Pink Iron. I asked her what she thought of it before making my purchase (she’s been quilting a lot longer than me). She said she would not have bought one. She’d been finishing her doctorate and hadn’t used it for awhile, and couldn’t remember specifics of why she didn’t like it, but she remembered it wasn’t worth the price. Now I understand.
