Many fabric designers are including a panel in their collections. Often, these are intended as a diy fabric wall hanging. But, with a bit of ingenuity, there are many more things you can make with them. Often the designers themselves have planned other uses for the panels.
First, let’s discuss how to make a wall hanging from a fabric panel. In this demonstration video, Jenny shows several panels that were available at Missouri Star in 2013. Obviously, these are no longer in stock, but the points Jenny makes about how to use these panels are still pertinent. Jenny showed a quilt, two wall hangings, and a trick-or-treat bag made from panels. As you look at the fabric wall art panels, you will no doubt envision how you could use similar panels for quilts, wall hangings, table runners, pillows, baby quilts, or play mats.
In this second tutorial, Jenny shares thoughts about adding borders to a wall hanging panel fabric. The difference between a wall hanging, a baby quilt, and a bed quilt is how much border you add to the panel.
Natalie’s video series, The Final Stitch, has several tutorials that can help you learn how to make a fabric wall hanging. For beginning quilters, practicing skills such as adding a border, quilting on a home machine, and binding a quilt can be easier when using a fabric panel wall hanging. Natalie even has a tutorial to show you how to hang your wall quilt.
Designers are creating such a wide variety of wall hanging quilt panels today that your imagination is the only limit to what can be done with them. You can find panels of quilt labels and panels of fat quarters or fat eighths. You can make fabric wall hangings to celebrate every holiday and satisfy interests such as our National Parks or honoring the U.S. Armed Forces.
If you are sewing for children, you can find panels featuring themes such as American Sign Language, the alphabet, animals, dinosaurs, the I Spy game, Hot Wheels, Barbie, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Thomas the Tank Engine, Dr. Suess, and Marvel comics.
Whether you are looking for fabric wall hanging ideas or want to use a panel to jump-start a quilt or other project, we hope you enjoy browsing the selection we offer at Missouri Star!
