At Missouri Star, we go to great lengths to give our customers high quality products, and with the wide variety of tape measures available both in store and online, we go the extra mile. Missouri Star has retractable tape measures and tailor tape measures that will help you accurately assess fabric or length requirements. We offer measuring tapes with varying functions and purposes in different sizes and unique shapes, whatever fits your crafting needs!
Beginning quilters may be asking themselves, what are the most common sizes of tape measures? The most common lengths are 60” (152 cm) and 120” (304 cm), but some tape measures come in a 100” (254 cm) length. The longer 120” measuring tapes are especially handy for measuring longer fabric projects such as curtains or quilts, while the 60” tape measures work well for measuring apparel or other projects of smaller lengths.
What are the two sides of a tape measure? On the top side (or sometimes on the top row) are the imperial measurements (inches and feet). On the other side (or the bottom row of the top side) are the metric measurements (centimeters and meters).
Is a sewing tape measure the same as a ruler? The answer is simply no. Though both can measure in centimeters and inches, a typical ruler is only 12” long, whereas a sewing tape measure can be 60” - 120”. Technically you can use a ruler for your sewing measurements, but it may not be as accurate. A soft tape measure can bend and contort to measure more fluid, curvy objects, but a ruler is limited to measuring smooth, flat surfaces. This is why experienced crafters have a variety of notions for measurements.
Missouri Star strives to meet the needs of quilters, sewists, and crafters everywhere by providing various types of tape measures to fit various types of projects. Tailor measuring tape serves multiple purposes as it is suitable for tracking weight loss, sewing apparel, and of course, tailoring. What is the length of a tailor tape? They’re typically 60” long. Just like tailor tapes, seamstress tape measures are also usually 60”. Seamstress tape measures, or sewing tape measures, take the guesswork out of repairing seams and are great for efficiently sewing garments. Some of the fabric tape measures we offer are longer (100” or 120”) to track lengthier quilts and home decor projects.
Why not measure your fabrics with flair? Our love for these whimsical notions goes beyond measure! Missouri Star has everything from soft tapes and measuring kits to cute retractables. We have trendy rose gold measuring tapes and adorable froggy and unicorn shapes. These quirky retractable sewing tape measures are both accurate and fun! Shop with us to find a flexible tape measure to fit both your project’s needs and your individuality.
