Here in Hamilton, Missouri we are pretty well landlocked. We have beautiful lakes nearby. The Missouri River runs through the northern portion of the state and the Mississippi River forms our eastern border. We have eagles and herons, otters and beavers, walleye and largemouth bass. So, we have plenty of opportunities to boat, swim, and fish.
But there are a few things we don’t have. We don’t have water so vast that you can’t see across it. We don’t have tides or waves that crash on our beaches in an eternal rhythm. We can’t ride our waves with a surfboard. We don’t have albatrosses or puffins, seals or walruses, dolphins or whales, coral or clownfish, lobsters or crabs.
So if you long for the smell of salt water, the sound of waves, and the feel of sand under your feet even when the view out of your window is a cornfield, we can help! At Missouri Star, we have ocean print fabric for your quilting and sewing projects that can transport you to your happy place–mentally, if not physically.
Would you like to make a quilt with under the sea fabric? Something to keep you warm until you can return to the sun and sand of your favorite beach? Take a look at the Calypso II collection by Jason Yenter for In the Beginning Fabrics which features beautiful sea life fabric panels, border, and precut fabrics. This collection provides colorful and detailed choices of under the sea creature fabric.
We have many choices of sea life fabric. Take a look at the yardage in the Sanibel collection by Sue Zipkin for Clothworks. You’ll see sevel brightly colored prints tossed with sea creatures. Sue has also created a lovely fish scales print in multiple hues.
Animal Kingdom by Jessica Neilsen for Paintbrush Studio is a collection of aquatic animal fabric we love. These wonky creatures are printed on 100% organic cotton double gauze that is GOTS and OKEO-TEX certified. It would be perfect for sewing items for a baby.
Catch of the Day by Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Reef Life by Lorenzo Tempesta for Studio E are other tropical fish fabric collections that you might enjoy. Both are colorful and richly detailed.
Cotton Beach by Tone Finnanger for Tilda is a collection of sea life fabric by the yard that is different from many of the others. Each fabric uses a limited number of colors and shows a distinct pattern. These prints would be useful as blenders, borders, or for home decor applications.
We find that scrolling through these lovely, summery fabrics gives our spirits a lift on dreary, cold days. If you find that the same is true for you, come back often. We are happy to support mental health with the best ocean print fabric for your projects so you can bring a little bit of the ocean into your home.
