Pellon produces high-quality woven, non-woven, and knit interfacings, stabilizers, and battings. Pellon products are “The Magic in the Middle” for a wide variety of fiber art designs. There is a Pellon product for the specific requirements of your project, but finding it can feel overwhelming because there are so many options. Let’s see if we can simplify things a bit.
Pellon products are sorted into five categories–each with its own color code:
1. The APPAREL category is PINK. It includes Pellon fusible interfacing and Pellon sew in interfacing to stabilize collars, waistbands, and pockets in shirts, pants, and jackets. You don’t need the same type of interfacing for a silk blouse or a knit dress that you need for a tweed wool jacket. Therefore, various types (i.e. woven, non-woven, fusible, sew-in) and weights (i.e. sheerweight, midweight, hair canvas) of Pellon interfacing are offered to match the fabric used in the garment.
2. The CRAFTS & HOME DECOR category is YELLOW. These products are designed to strengthen, stabilize, and add to the design of the craft or home decor item in some way. Pellon fusible fleece, Flex-Foam, and Pellon sew in stabilizer used for tote bags, soft-sided boxes or bowls, and soft baby toys fall into this category.
3. The QUILTING category is GREEN. Quilting products are designed to add weight or warmth to the final quilted project. This category includes Pellon batting and Pellon fusible cotton batting (note - we do not currently carry the latter).
4. The FUSIBLE WEBS and ADHESIVES category is ORANGE. The interfacings and stabilizers in this category act as a “glue” between two porous surfaces such as fabric, cardboard, and wood. A steam iron is used to adhere the Pellon adhesive between the two surfaces. There is an iron-on vinyl product in this category.
5. The EMBROIDERY category is BLUE. Embroidery backings are used to prevent fabric from stretching or distorting during hand or machine embroidery. You may choose tear-away, cut-away, or wash-away Pellon stabilizer for your embroidery projects.
Pellon Tru Grid is a product worthy of special mention. Tru Grid is a non-woven fabric specifically designed for pattern creation, duplication, and alteration. It is printed with a 1” graph pattern. It is sheer, allowing you to easily trace over a pattern. You can write notes on it. It is sturdy enough to cut, gather, and sew like real fabric. Tru Grid does not tear easily, so you can try on a garment made from it. If you have a favorite tissue paper pattern that has seen better days, you could preserve it on Pellon Tru Grid. Or maybe you are planning to sew a very special and expensive garment like a wedding dress. A practice run on Tru Grid would save time and money in the long run.
At Missouri Star, we offer a variety of Pellon interfacing fusible and sew-in, along with Pellon battings and stabilizers. We think these are great products that will give your projects just the right stuff they need to be amazing.
