Have you ever examined quilts at a quilt show or a state fair? You might have marveled at the intricate patterns of stitches that keep the layers of a quilt sandwiched together. You don’t have to be a sewist to admire the work. The quilting itself is an element of artistry in addition to the use of color and pattern in the quilt top.
If you want to level-up your quilting game, Hancy Creations™ has many choices of quilt stencils for machine quilting. Many of the Hancy stencils also work well for hand quilting. At Missouri Star, you can find Hancy Creations™ stencils in swirls, curls, circles, scallops, borders of all sorts, baby, sports, and botanical patterns.
Hancy quilting stencils have fine mesh rather than open space in the pattern area. A quilt pounce is used to transfer chalk into the pattern by gently brushing the pounce across the stencil. Hancy full line stencils have registration marks that allow you to pick up the stencil and move it down or turn it and then keep going in a continuous line. Another feature of Hancy quilt stencils is that they are reversible. This allows the user more flexibility and creativity in using the stencils.
When you finish marking your pattern onto your quilt, be sure to follow the directions for removing the chalk. Hancy Creations Inc.™ makes white chalk for use on dark fabric that can be easily removed by washing or applying heat. Hancy also makes three colors of chalk for the quilt pounce; these colors must be washed out or brushed off. However, it’s important to be aware that if the colored chalk is heated, the color will set into the fabric.
Finally, Hancy stencils will tolerate being well used. If a stencil is crushed in the bottom of your tote bag, no worries. Just iron it flat and press it into service again! You can use your Hancy stencil over and over again—a worthy investment.
After you watch Bernie Collier of Hancy Creations™ demonstrate how to use these wonderful stencils in the video linked below, check out the selection of Hancy Creations™ products available at Missouri Star.
