Donna Robertson and her daughter Fran Morgan–a fiber artist–wanted to go into business together. They opened the Fabric Café in January 2001. As an effort to promote sales, in 2008 they began designing quilt patterns for one yard each of three coordinating fabrics and selling fabrics bundled this way. Quilters loved these easy-to-follow patterns and asked for more.
Eventually Fabric Café quilt patterns were collected and published as Fabric Café books. We are pleased to offer Fabric Café patterns and Fabric Cafe books at Missouri Star.
Fabric Café Books for three yard quilts–most often authored by Donna Robertson–have become enormously popular because the patterns are easy to follow, and the quilts come together quickly. Each 3-Yard Quilts book contains patterns for eight quilts. If you calculate the cost per pattern, these books are very economical. These Fabric Cafe books also show you how to get the biggest bang for your fabric bucks. 3-Yard Quilts books include enlargement instructions so you can change the quilt from a lap size to a twin or queen/king size quilt.
Jenny, Natalie, and Misty demonstrated three different three yard quilts in the Triple Play below. Watching this tutorial will help you look inside one of Fabric Café’s books and watch how the quilts come together. It’s like trying out a pattern book virtually before you buy it!
Fat Quarter Quilting Fun by Fran Morgan for Fabric Café was published in April 2021. It includes seven fat quarter quilting patterns. Like the other Fabric Café books, the patterns in Fat Quarter Fun give directions for lap, twin, and queen/king size quilts. While most of the Fabric Café patterns require yards, this book would be just the thing if you have lots of fat quarters in your stash.
We hope you will try a Fabric Café quilt pattern book. We love them and think that you will too!
