Do you enjoy making stuffed animals? Are you looking for a new pattern to try? Have you never made a stuffed animal, but you want to make one for a special person? In either case, you are in the right place!
Missouri Star has a selection of stuffed animal patterns that are easy to sew and sure to charm people of all ages. In particular, we recommend Funky Friends Factory patterns by Pauline McArthur.
On the Funky Friends Factory website, Pauline offers a free pattern for the Honey Teddy if you sign-up for her newsletter. You will also find a video demonstrating how to assemble Honey Teddy. Whether or not you get the free pattern, watching the video can help you learn how to make a stuffed animal step by step. The techniques Pauline uses to assemble Honey Teddy are transferable to all of the Pauline McArthur stuffed toy sewing patterns we carry at Missouri Star.
During the tutorial video, Pauline cuts away when she stitches the pattern pieces together. Some people wonder, what stitch do you use for stuffed animals? Use a straight stitch at a length appropriate for the fabric you have chosen for the stuffed toy. Your raw edges will be enclosed inside the toy; therefore, you do not need to finish them.
If you have never sewed stuffed animals, choose an easy stuffed animal pattern for your first effort. Some patterns state the level of difficulty. An animal that has a large body with big curves–such as a manatee–is a good choice. The pattern for a manatee will have fewer pattern pieces and fewer tight corners than a pattern for a giraffe that has lots of long, thin body parts. Other simple stuffed animal patterns are for animals like whales, sea turtles, and hippos. Snakes are also easy–as long as they are not too skinny–because they require lots of straight stitching.
Once you have mastered some of the easy Pauline McArthur patterns, you may be feeling ready to tackle a more challenging animal. It can be hard to choose! The sloth is a cute stuffed animal pattern, but so is the lion! Who can resist a hedgehog? Maybe you will feel ready to try the giraffe Pauline McArthur pattern. There are so many adorable stuffed animal patterns that it is difficult to decide! Rest assured that Missouri Star will strive to bring you the best stuffed animal patterns available–for the young and young at heart.
