Augustus Brabant started the Brabant Needle Company in Watertown, New York in 1888. He imported his needles from Redditch, England. Well into the 20th century, 90% of sewing and industrial needles were manufactured there! In the early 1900’s, the company moved to New York City. When the family who owned the company moved to Yonkers, New York, they changed its name to Colonial Needle Company. The company currently operates from White Plains, New York under the ownership of the Collingham family.
From its founding by Mr. Brabant to its current days, the owners of the Colonial Needle Company have had the same goals. First, to provide the finest products available to needleworkers. Second, to guarantee high quality service to customers. Although Colonial Needle Company carries some sewing machine needles, they specialize in needles for hand sewing arts.
Missouri Star offers a selection of products from the Colonial Needle Company for your convenience. We have various types of hand sewing needles and quilting needles by several different manufacturers. Some folks like to use milliner’s needles for multi-wrap embroidery stitches such as French knots and boullion stitches; therefore, we carry these embroidery needles as well.
We offer thimbles, basting glue, and chalk pencils. Do you need an embroidery hoop? How about a rotary blade sharpener? These are only a few of the handy notions we provide from the Colonial Needle Company. After all, our goals align with theirs, providing products to you that will enhance the joy of creating fiber arts.
