Top 10 Uses for MSQC Quilt Templates

As Jenny always says, we love making quilt tools that you can use over and over and over! And our quilting templates are just one example of how we do that. But once you purchase a quilt template, you may be wondering what you can do with it beyond creating applique quilts.

Today we’ve rounded up some of our favorite projects featuring our Holiday and Spring template collections. We hope these 10 ideas will inspire you to make more (and we’ve added a free project download to get you started)!

1. Make some fabulous wall art!

In our recent Spring Brights porch feature, designer Christine Ricks created a wall of butterflies from our nesting butterfly templates, spring fabrics, and interfacing. Make your own wall art using her instructions in our free download!

2. Craft an adorable bunting!

Nothing makes the changing of the seasons more festive than bunting! Missy Lukkonen of The little Green Bean made an adorable spring bunting and added her own embroidered touches. What can’t she do?

3. Embellishments - applique and more!

Turn sweatshirts, jeans, skirts and more into your own unique masterpieces. Our team member Laura added a bit of flower power to breathe new life into some A-line skirts she had in her closet. Do you spy our next template release? (Hint: he’s just ducky!)

4. Pretty up the table!

Some of our templates are big enough to be turned into fun and practical projects! Check out these quilted hot pads created with our Holiday Ornament template! A bit of insulated batting and a few holiday fat quarters and you’ve got beautiful additions to your holiday table. P.S. They would make great hostess gifts, too!

5. Put a bird on it!

Team member Stefanie created an adorable wall hanging featuring our wee songbird template to welcome spring. She also added one to a tea towel to freshen up her kitchen decor. If in doubt - put a bird on it!

6. Journaling and Scrapbooking and Paper Crafts, oh my!

Our templates are perfect for seasonal papercrafts! Just trace onto decorative papers or cardstock and cut to create fun scrapbook pages. Punch a hole and use a bit of ribbon and add as personalized gift tags. Or trace the shapes onto your journal pages. Color them in, add watercolor or ink washes…your imagination is your only limit!

7. Add a little reverse applique

Customer Janet B. took her Holiday Templates and created these darling stockings using a reverse applique technique in gorgeous blue and white fabric.

8. Turn those orphan blocks into pillows!

Got leftover fabric (5” squares work like a charm!) or an orphan quilt block? Turn them into a pillow and add a shape. We love these bunny pillows from a previous tutorial, and team member Stefanie updated it with our new bunny template!

9. Sew a patchwork quilt!

Of course one of our favorite things to do with our templates is adding them to quilts! We’re loving Kimberly Knickerbocker’s (Autumn Hollow Patchwork) adorable Easter Joy quilt, featuring bunnies and scrappy eggs. We can also imagine a garden quilt featuring flowers, birds and watering cans!

10. Make scrappy holiday ornaments!

We all have scraps of holiday fabrics in our stashes, right? Sew up some fun scrappy ornaments! Hang these on a tree, make them for friends, or add them to gifts in addition to paper and ribbons.

We hope we’ve inspired you to use our templates in a variety of ways. We’d love to see what you create! Tag us with #msqcshowandtell when you share photos on Instagram.
