Sara's Batik Quilts

Hi, I'm Sara and I'm the Senior Marketing Director here at Missouri Star. Working with such a talented group has inspired me to take up quilting, and I made two batik quilts this past year. They are distinctly different from each other, and I really love that.

The first was inspired by the Missouri Star Building Blocks pattern. It was quick to assemble with layer cake squares, and I loved the variations in the blocks. I added black sashing to make the quilt larger; that really made the blocks pop. It will be on display this 4th of July!

My second quilt used a jelly roll that I purchased during Birthday Bash. With the number of prints and colors in my jelly roll, I knew it would produce twenty very unique blocks for an Easy Strip Butterfly Quilt.

My mom, my best friend's mom, and I created an assembly line, cutting, pressing, sewing, squaring, and then putting the blocks all together.

One of our strips was cut backwards, but because batiks are vibrant on both sides, we were able to flip it over and not miss a beat. (It gave us a good laugh!) We completed this quilt in a weekend and absolutely love the result.
